»Hyannis seems to have less litter. Things are looking better!
»Fairness and safety are different issues. How about eliminating the one space on the left of the driveway so when cars pull out of the back parking lot, they won't have to pull put into the road. Large SUV's in the spot block the view of the cars trying to pull out into oncoming Main Street traffic. Also, at that point Main Street is merging into one lane from 2.
The area where South splits to 2 lanes and Main merges into one is always a bit dicey as there usually is someone trying to take a Left onto the road from Stevens St. (which has a no Left turn sign) and cars crossing from Potter onto Stevens St or going Left towards the rotary. The Brazilian Grill is a busy restaurant, especially at lunch time with alot of take-out customers who don't use the crosswalks- which is another safety issue.
»The owners of the Brazillian grill tried to increase desperatly needed parking by trying to turn a derilect building into more parking spaces . The town planning board turned them down. I don't think eliminating more spaces would be very fair to a buisness that is doing all they can to improve the problem with no town support.
»Add the incentive of PAY for day labor. We could use a WPA work incentive program- I think we don't have one at this time. There are so many public places that need trash pickup, weeding, etc. I wonder if the Town of Barnstable, for instance, has a slush fund for these type of jobs? We could use more strategically placed barrels and reminders, and more importantly, a "sense of community" pride- such as what Sea Street is doing!
»I thought most of the schools already had dress codes. They are in the handbooks we sign each year. Are they being enforced? To uniforms, no thank you.
»I guess in today's PC world I will have to say Oldies Groups in stead of Doo W ops Groups. Hope I haven't offended any old people by using the word Oldie. Anyway, thanks for the info I will check out the web site.

»Listening to all types of music is heaven at the harbor! Thank you for your suggestion. We do host weekly concerts in July and August and always welcome groups to perform at Aselton Park as well as near the artist shanties at Bismore Park. Year round activities are listed at www.hyartsdistrict.com We will keep "Doo Night" on our idea list. Perhaps tie in with a classic car night!

»Mike, keep an eye on the iForum. We will soon be posting a question regarding school dress codes and school uniforms. We are looking forward to hearing input from our citizens.
»Again, the reason there are drug transactions and homeless people in that area is because it desolate. Basically, if I am understanding this correctly, just because a few homeless people have found a beautiful, quiet, well landscaped area to take a snooze in, we are going to avoid building the area up for families in our community? That makes no sense at all. It's like saying, "people smoke crack in that old abandoned building so lets just leave it there for them instead of demolishing it & building a new one." We are just going to let it be instead of giving the area a purpose?
»I agree with you, it would be nice to get their input because they would be able to share different types of information with us (what is/is not possible & why) to make our conversations & feedback more productive. For instance, if someone has an idea & there is currently a policy in place that wouldn't allow for such a thing, we may not be aware of it. If we are, we can quickly move on to other possibilities/options, or figure out what policy it is that needs to be addressed/modified in order to do so. It would be fantastic if they could give us a little more background regarding the topics including statistics, what has been implimented previously, etc. We would most likely be a bit more constructive on here instead of listening to people complain. We need to share ideas, not just complain on the here. Complaining does no one any good. We need to take each issue & be constructive, not live in the past and focus on the negative.
»Noise and annoyances are a part of life on Cape Cod. Sirens, motorcycles, trains, airplanes, boat horns and motors, car radios, the Melody tent in the Summer, and now Jake Brakes.
For those that live near the airport, Melody tent or on other main roads, years of complaints have gone unresolved. Have you tried a fan or AC unit as white noise? We have foundd that effective.
»Jake brakes arn't nearly as loud as motorcycles or sirens. If you live near a major road such as rt. 28 you should expect to hear noise from the road. I live near rt. 28 myself and although I hear these noises also I don't really notice them as it is regular background noise to me. If you want silence you should live away from civilization.
»If there is a law on the books, it's being ignored. It's a killer for the tourism. So I'm in favor of finding out about the issue. It's not a simple issue. Some of my friends do bum too much. In some ways it seems to be the main way we relate as human beings, but not the only way. Smoking is one of the roots. We need a couple or few regular beat, on foot, Main St. Hyannis officers, and this would help to have if long term person. This would need to be an outgoing and friendly person(s), who can have lunch at Baybridge and the Salvation Army. Nothing too too heavy.
